Lessons at Green Heron
Farm
Each new student
must take an evaluation lesson
regardless of prior riding
experience. A student must be
able to ride independently at
walk and trot before joining a
class.
Dressage
Lessons:
Dressage is a
classical approach to developing
the horse and rider. We work on
developing a relaxed and
independent seat through work on
the longe line as well as
balancing and suppling exercises.
We augment our regular lesson
program with visiting instructors
and clinicians throughout the
year.
Jumping
Lessons:
We teach jumping
over gymnastics, grids and short
courses. Work over ground poles
and cavalettis is often
incorporated on the flat to
develop rhythm and balance.
Pleasure
Lessons:
Since everyone
gets something different out of
riding, we offer a wide variety
of approaches. For those who are
not interested in competing or in
a specific discipline, but who
would like to be safe,
comfortable and confident, we are
more than happy to work with you.
Many of our riders have gone on
riding vacations all over the
world, including Spain, Portugal,
France, Ireland, Italy, Africa,
Mongolia, Iceland as well as
throughout the US. They have all
felt that they were well prepared
and better able to enjoy their
riding experiences as a result of
their lessons at Green Heron
Farm.
For those students interested in
competing, we offer both
schooling shows here, and the
opportunity to ride in area shows
and competitions. Many of our
students have gone on to compete
at the intercollegiate level in
several disciplines.
